Scioto Track Club Information

About The Club

Welcome to the Scioto Track and Cross Country Club! We’re primarily a federation of community youth and open athlete programs concentrating on the north and northwest areas of Columbus Ohio. All athletes are welcome to join regardless of area of residence. We offer coaching and administrative support from the local meet level to the national competition level. We’re registered with both USATF and AAU.

Location
Our practices take place in the Upper Arlington and Hilliard areas at a variety of times and locations. This ensures ample access for all athletes, and facilitates friendships between athletes from different schools and areas of the community.

Coaching Philosophy
Our coaches bring a variety of instructional techniques to the practices and often rotate between locations. This allows athletes and parents to choose locations and instructional techniques that they’re most comfortable with and best fit their needs. If an athlete is participating in several different events i.e. jumps, relays, and hurdles he or she may be encouraged to attend different practices at different locations throughout the week.

There is never any pressure to attend practices or meets. One main requirement we have, however, is if an athlete attends a practice he or she must be respectful and attentive to the coach running the practice drills. Even though we have an informal approach to practice attendance, when we’re on the track we want to take it seriously. Track is largely an individual sport, but individual attitudes during practice can’t be tolerated, for obvious reasons. Additionally, our athletes range in age from six to 18, and we depend on the older athletes to be proper role models for the younger athletes.

Fees
Because of our informal approach to practice and meet attendance our fees at this time are “pay as you go.” This means an athlete pays only for the meets he or she wants to participate in (usually around $12-15 per local meets, up to $30 for national-level meets.) As the season progresses athletes are required to join either USATF or AAU or both if they want to advance to the regional or national level competitions in these organizations (around $20 per year for each organization.) Uniform (optional) costs, travel costs, shoe costs, etc. are the responsibility of the individual athlete.

Staff
Our staff consists of Coach Irv, the club founder over 35 years ago (jumps, hurdles, throws), Coach Rick, the club president (middle and long distance), Coach Dan (jumps), Coach Deshaun (sprints and relays), and General Manager Matt. Additionally this year we'll be receiving guest coaching from area high school and middle school coaches.

In addition, we depend on a great deal of parental support.
